SCOTTISH WOMEN IN SPORT CONFERENCE 2024

Safe & Strong: Women’s Health, Wellbeing & Safety in Sport

WEDNESDAY 21st AUGUST 2024

University of the West of Scotland (Lanarkshire Campus)

Supported by sportscotland & UWS

For our 2024 Conference we were delighted to welcome organisations who are working to ensure safety in all aspects for women and girls in sport.

We looked at how you ensure that all cultural requirements for women and girls participating in sport are easily met and asked ‘how does diversity on boards’ help with these issues.

We also delved into the world of social media and how this can also be an unsafe space for women and girls. Athletes from Scottish Disability Sport then discussed how collaboration is important to help to understand better their requirements to integrate into sport.

In the afternoon, we welcomed Gymnasts for Change, a survivor led organisation with an international following, as well as Kyniska Advocacy, who have a vision for a sporting community which fosters a safe environment for all athletes and has the protection and welfare of women at its heart.

Our last presentation of the day was from Women in Sport UK,  who discussed their recent research in how social media can be used negatively to influence young men on how they view women and girls’ participation in sport.
