This year the SW/S Conference will focus on the many ways that technology has impacted sport. The use of technology has become part of everyone’s daily life – but is sport using it to its best advantage and also benefitting from the latest innovations?
During the recent pandemic working practices changed massively and we all relied even more on technology with the result that we are learning how to change the way we work and embrace technology. This year the SW/S Conference will focus on the many ways that technology has impacted sport and we will hear from our partner sportscotland and sportscotland Institute of Sport on their thoughts and use of technology. Their session is – The Use of Technology in Female Athlete Education: How to Promote an Open and Supportive Environment within Sport
This session will outline the multidisciplinary team approach taken to engage, understand and support female athletes, and demonstrate how to use technology to provide a multifaceted learning experience. Both Nikki Gibson who is a Performance Physiologist with over 12 years’ experience working in High Performance Sport and Maggie Hendry who is a High Performance Physiotherapist who has worked for the sportscotland institute of sport for the last 12 years, will lead this discussion.
We will have a snapshot of current research within the Division of Sport and Exercise at UWS. Researchers from the Division will provide an insight into current projects, such as exploring the role of technology in supporting exercise for women during and after pregnancy, and the use of technology for female athletes in performance sport settings.
You can have a tour of the world class facilities at UWS Lanarkshire which is an award winning £120m purpose-built campus boasting a range of research facilities for sport and exercise including a Biomechanics lab, Cardiovascular Imaging Suite, Biochemistry Laboratories, Rehabilitation Suite, and an Extreme Environments Lab which houses one of the largest, purpose-built environmental chambers in Scotland. https://www.uws.ac.uk/university-life/campuses/lanarkshire-campus/
Hormonix, have developed a new, first of a kind technology that will provide clear, rapid and accurate information on hormone levels through a saliva sample. Regular and easy to access data on hormones has enormous potential to unlock a wide variety of opportunities to progress female health, performance and wellbeing – not just for athletes but society as a whole. https://www.mintdiagnostics.com/hormonix/
We also have a presentation on the Actify platform which is a free digital tool that enables sport and physical activity organisations to create and host digital content, learn from one another, and support their audiences. Used by over 100 organisations to host and manage over 1400 digital resources. Also recently developed and now launched, Actify’s Digital Delivery Training designed to help organisations think about how technology can support the delivery and evaluation of their programmes.
More information on our other presenters will be available shortly.
